Preschool Gardening Program
Research has shown that the hands-on nature of gardening can enrich curriculum, improve children’s interest in learning, encourage them to eat well, and develop social skills. Introducing children to gardening instills a life-long passion for plants and respect for the environment.
In partnership with Chef Advantage and Pike’s Nursery we are developing a gardening program where children interact with their environment by planting, maintaining, harvesting, and feasting on our own vegetables.
When children plan, plant, care for, and analyze the garden, science and learning take on meaning like never before. The garden provides ample opportunity for making science inviting and relevant to children’s lives by inspiring active exploration and problem solving.
Gardens help children:
Builds an understanding of and respect for nature and our environment
Motivates kids to eat and love fruits and vegetables
Provides science opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation, and experimentation
Promotes physical activity and quality outdoor experiences
Teaches children to nurture and care for other living things while developing patience
